Serbian president dissolves parliament and calls elections for October
Aleksandar Vučić has dissolved parliament and called for early elections on October 25 as he seeks re-election as prime minister.

The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced the dissolution of parliament on Wednesday, calling for early legislative elections on October 25. This decision brings forward the elections initially scheduled for 2027.
Vučić, who is a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), will run for prime minister in the elections under the campaign titled "United Serbia." The move reflects the party's intention to maintain political control in the country.
The call for elections comes amid organized protests by the student movement. This movement, which opposes the government, has expressed discontent with the political and social situation in the country, including the recent collapse of the Novi Sad train station in 2024.

According to reports, the president attributes the current turmoil the country is facing to "foreign forces," referring to external influences on Serbia's internal politics. In his comments, Vučić also lamented the instability that prompted the demand for early elections.
The protests are part of a growing political dynamic in the country, where anti-government groups are seeking changes in the power structures and have criticized the government's performance on various fronts. The elections in October could serve as an important test for the current government and its policies.
With the dissolution of parliament and the call for voting, Serbia is preparing for a period of intense political activity as various forces and social groups position themselves regarding the country's future.
