SpaceX and Tesla Explore Merger Through Special Committees
Elon Musk confirmed that SpaceX and Tesla are evaluating a potential merger, supported by newly formed special committees.

Elon Musk announced during SpaceX's third quarter earnings call that the companies have established special committees to explore a potential merger. This initiative was initiated in response to shareholder requests, and the committees consist of independent directors; however, Musk did not specify the names of the committee members.
The prospect of a merger between Tesla and SpaceX, which have both gained significant attention, is seen as a potentially landmark corporate tie-up. Musk indicated that there could be considerable benefits to merging the two companies, particularly in relation to developing superintelligence software.
Despite expressing enthusiasm for the merger, Musk clarified that he is not involved in the discussions of the special committees, citing possible conflicts of interest as the reason for his absence. This step represents an early move towards what could be one of the largest corporate mergers in history, valued at approximately $3.5 trillion.

Both Tesla and SpaceX’s boards are assessing the feasibility of this merger. Speculation about such a deal has escalated in recent weeks, particularly following reports that SpaceX turned a profit for the first time as a public company, which may influence investor confidence in the potential merger.
Shares of SpaceX rose 4.9% after Musk's disclosures, reflecting investor optimism surrounding the discussions. While the idea has garnered attention, Musk stated that entering into a merger is not a guaranteed outcome, and the discussions are still in preliminary stages, leaving room for various outcomes.
This merger proposal comes amidst an ongoing trend of collaboration between companies in the tech and aerospace sectors, as seen in Musk’s dual leadership roles at Tesla and SpaceX. Both entities have increasing overlap in technologies and markets, making the discussions regarding a merger particularly relevant to stakeholders.
