Spain receives over €6 billion in sixth payment of recovery plan

On Tuesday, Spain received €6.234 billion as part of the sixth disbursement from the European Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. According to reports, this payment was approved by the European Commission in early July. However, the full payment has not been made, as Brussels has withheld €537 million.

The withholding of funds is due to Spain's failure to meet certain milestones associated with this disbursement, particularly the development of a training system that has not been accredited.

Since the initiation of the recovery plan, Brussels has disbursed a total of approximately €61 billion in grants and more than €17 billion in loans as part of a aid fund that concludes this year.

This sixth payment represents a step forward in the recovery process, although the withholdings indicate that there are still conditions that must be met by the Spanish state. According to reports, efforts are expected to be made to comply with these milestones to avoid future withholdings.
