Spain requests emergency funding from EU for crisis in Ceuta
The European Commission is quickly assessing Spain's funding request due to the migration crisis in Ceuta.

Spain has formally requested emergency funding from the European Commission to address the current migration crisis in Ceuta. The situation in the region has prompted the Spanish government to seek financial support to manage the influx of migrants.
According to community sources, the European Commission has already begun evaluating this request and promises to make a swift decision. The EMAS mechanism, responsible for pre-financing, can provide up to 80% of the necessary funds for the intervention.
Spain's Minister of Health stated in comments made on Sunday that the confinement of migrants in this region is unjustified and disproportionate, expressing concern about the current conditions of migrants in Ceuta.

The EMAS mechanism has been previously used to support the Canary Islands, with 38 million euros approved in 2025, reflecting a history of financial support in similar migration crisis situations.
The increase in financial assistance is seen as a necessary response to ensure the safety and well-being of migrants and local citizens, in light of the drastic rise in the number of people arriving in Ceuta.
Spanish authorities are awaiting a response from the European Commission, which is prioritizing the review of the request in an attempt to address existing gaps and support the management of the migration crisis in the region.
