The study, published in the journal BMJ Public Health, reported high excess mortality following the end of the pandemic. According to the British Medical Journal, it contains "misinformation about the possible causes of excess mortality," which is why it was withdrawn.

Vaccine critics had eagerly used the study's findings to question vaccination campaigns. The withdrawal comes amid calls from scientists and experts for accurate information regarding Covid-19 vaccinations. A link between excess mortality and the vaccines has been deemed unfounded.
