Suspension of Constitutional Court President Sparks Crisis in Poland
The suspension of the Constitutional Court president has triggered protests and police intervention in Warsaw.

On Friday night, police were mobilized in Warsaw in response to the suspension of the president of the Constitutional Court, Bogdan Swieczkowski, announced on the court's official website. This measure sparked unrest in the vicinity of the court and triggered protests, reflecting political instability in the country.
The temporary removal of the president and the vice-president of the Constitutional Court has intensified a conflict that has been ongoing for more than a decade, involving disputes between the government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and judicial institutions influenced by previous appointments. Tusk, who currently holds the position, criticized efforts he deems harmful to democracy. Protests emerged following the government’s decision, with demands for justice and legitimacy in the country’s institutions.
The situation at the court led the president of Poland to interrupt a trip abroad, calling for ruling and opposition parties to unite in efforts to seek a solution to the political and institutional crisis. Meanwhile, riot police occupied the court's premises during the intervention, raising questions about the institution's legitimacy.

The European Union's response to the legitimacy of the Constitutional Court has also grown, with European authorities expressing concerns over the government's recent actions and their implications for the Polish judicial system. The central issue lies in how the government is managing institutions and whether this undermines the independence of the judiciary in Poland.
In addition to the police mobilization and protests, Judge Bogdan Swieczkowski attempted to access the court but was blocked, stating that he would continue his attempts daily. His removal, in addition to inciting the opposition's anger, fuels a cycle of tensions that intensify with each new public demonstration.
With ongoing protests, the situation at the court, and the meeting convened by the president, the political crisis in Poland remains without a clear resolution, reflecting the complexity of current political disputes and the divisions among various groups in the country.
