Since 2019, the Ministry of the Interior has invested more than €37 million in the border of Ceuta, a situation that is now being questioned in light of the current crisis in the region. Additionally, €42.7 million has been allocated to strengthen security at the perimeter of Melilla.

Despite these investments, the ministry has not included the installation of the maritime barrier at El Tarajal in its budget, leading to criticism regarding the effectiveness of the security measures implemented at Spain’s borders.
