The EU remembers Marcinelle: August 8 will be a day for victims of workplace accidents

The European Union has proclaimed August 8 as a day in memory of victims of workplace accidents, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Marcinelle disaster. In this mining catastrophe, which occurred in 1956, 262 workers lost their lives, more than half of whom were migrant Italians.

During the commemoration, Landini and Fumarola also participated, emphasizing the importance of safety in the workplace and expressing the hope that this day serves as a continuous reminder for all. Supportive messages were also sent by Giorgia Meloni and La Russa, who traveled to Belgium for the event.
