Thibau Nys, the 23-year-old rider from Lidl-Trek, will start the Vuelta on Saturday. This season has been challenging for him, including an infection with toxoplasmosis.
Nys fell ill during a training camp in Mallorca last July. Following his diagnosis, he underwent a period of recovery and rebuilding, which brought a year filled with uncertainties.
The rider has indicated that he suspects a steak tartare was the cause of his illness. He hopes to turn his season around and get back into top form.
In an interview with Sven Ornelis and Anke Buckinx on JOE's morning show, Nys talked about his tough year and his aim to perform at his previous level again.
Despite the physical and mental challenges, Nys is determined to make the most of his participation in the Vuelta and improve his performances.
