A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Flores island in Indonesia early Saturday, leading to significant destruction and loss of life. Reports indicate that the quake has resulted in 53 fatalities and left dozens injured. The quake triggered at least 341 aftershocks throughout the day, exacerbating the situation for those affected.

According to the BNPB national disaster agency, around 5,000 residents evacuated their homes to seek safety. Areas have been left without electricity and disrupted telecommunications services, further complicating relief efforts. Help began arriving on Sunday for the displaced individuals, who are in urgent need of assistance.

Local authorities and aid organizations are mobilizing resources to respond to the crisis. Many evacuees are currently in makeshift shelters as they await further aid and recovery efforts. The situation remains critical as the damage assessment continues across the affected regions.

Officials have been working to restore essential services and provide immediate relief to those impacted by the disaster. The full extent of the damage and the number of people in need of assistance are still being evaluated.
