On the other end of the standings, Dutch cyclist Mathieu van der Poel struggled to match his earlier performances. He completed the race in 30th place, leading to disappointment over his results throughout the tournament.

Van der Poel, who has previously won world titles in road cycling, cyclocross, and gravel, indicated that he lacked the strength necessary for this race. He acknowledged that Pidcock was a far better mountain biker, which was evident in the results.

Reactions to the race and the standout performances of Pidcock and Van der Poel will undoubtedly continue to capture public attention, as the mountain biking world prepares for future events.
