Transport Minister Bilger plans adjustments in freight and rail transport
New Transport Minister Bilger is considering relaxing the truck driving ban on Sundays and holidays to facilitate freight transport on the Rhine.
In light of extreme low water levels impacting freight transport on the Rhine, Transport Minister Bilger announced that trucks may be allowed to operate on Sundays and holidays. This measure is part of efforts to improve transport options during the crisis.
Additionally, Bilger stated that pressure on the railways must be increased. The state-owned company is currently pursuing an approach involving extensive shutdowns for corridor renovations. This procedure has faced criticism, prompting a review of the concept.
