US President Donald Trump had threatened retaliatory strikes against Iran at the end of July, but he canceled them at short notice. Reports suggest that Saudi Arabia pushed for this decision after Iran and other regional countries called for de-escalation.

At the same time, Saudi Arabia reports increasing insecurity regarding potential attacks from Iraqi militias and Yemeni rebels. The country experienced an attack overnight, raising fears of a coordinated wave of assaults. Trump, however, remains optimistic.
