U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has offered Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the position of White House Press Secretary. Trump revealed his proposal in a post on the social media platform Truth Social, indicating that he would like White to bring along some fighters for the communications team, citing the need for a 'team capable of defending [the U.S.] against the lunatic left.'

White, known for his ties to Trump and his position in the UFC, is reportedly planning to discuss the job offer in a meeting scheduled for Monday, according to a report by The Independent. The invitation comes at a time when the position has been vacant since the departure of former spokesperson Katie Zacharia on October 16.

Various news sources, including CNN, reported that White may have initially declined the proposal, but there is still anticipation about the discussion between the two next week. Some reports indicate that TMZ suggested the meeting will be to evaluate the offer, but they do not provide clear details regarding immediate acceptance or rejection.

Trump described White as an ally and was sure to reiterate his support, referring to him as 'big Dana White, a ferocious fighter and warrior.' In addition to encouraging White to bring on fighters, the president mentioned that individuals like Khabib Nurmagomedov would be helpful for the White House's communications work.

Trump's offer has generated mixed reactions on social media and among analysts, with some sources suggesting that the proposal could be more humorous than serious, although the president emphasized his intention to form a strong team to face criticism.

The White House's communication strategy has seen frequent changes under Trump's administration, and this offer to a figure from the UFC represents yet another departure from traditional choices for the spokesperson role, which typically has been held by communication professionals with experience in politics and government.
