Ruti Aga, a 32-year-old Ethiopian runner and winner of the 2019 Tokyo Marathon, has been suspended for doping and manipulation. The athlete, who has claimed multiple podium finishes in marathons on the world circuit, tested positive for methylprednisolone on 15 March at a half-marathon in China which she won.

Peres Jepchirchir, a Kenyan athlete and current world marathon champion and Olympic champion from Tokyo 2021, has been provisionally suspended for doping, as announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit. According to information released, the positive test was for erythropoietin, a substance that increases red blood cell production.

The sample that resulted in Jepchirchir's positive test was collected before her victory at the Sydney Marathon in August. The test was conducted out of competition, according to athletics integrity authorities.
