Two Ukrainian youths, aged 15 and 20, drowned Wednesday afternoon in the Zandenplas in Nunspeet. This was announced by the municipality on Thursday.
The victims were part of a group of Ukrainian refugees living in a blended foster family in the Veluwe village since the start of the war. Together with two other boys and two girls from the same foster family, they went swimming in the recreation pond, which is popular among visitors.
Around 12:00 PM, the youths did not surface. The other boys and girls raised the alarm, after which emergency services arrived at the scene.
