The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's Parliament, has appointed Yevheniy Chmara as the new Minister of Defense. Chmara, who previously served as the acting head of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine), received support from 312 deputies, as reported by the media outlet "Суспільне."

Chmara succeeds Mykhailo Fedorov, whose resignation in July led to nationwide protests. Fedorov stepped down due to a deep conflict with the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrski.

Yevheniy Chmara had been in office temporarily since July and previously led the Special Operations Center "Alpha." The situation in Ukraine remains tense as protests against the government continue.
