UN calls for withdrawal of gender identity bills from Parliament
Following a letter from the UN High Commissioner, parties such as PSD, Chega, and CDS face criticism over their proposals.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, sent a letter to the Portuguese Parliament requesting the withdrawal of bills presented by the PSD, Chega, and CDS related to gender identity. In the letter, Türk expresses concern that these bills may compromise Portugal's obligations regarding human rights.
In response, the Chega and CDS parties rejected the UN's call and defended their stance on the proposed legislation. BE urged the PSD to reconsider in light of the warning issued by the United Nations and challenged the President of the Republic to take a position on the matter.

The PSD does not plan to make any statement in response to the letter received from the UN High Commissioner. The silence of the political party raises questions about its stance on human rights in the context of recent criticisms.
The situation surrounding the gender identity bills is being closely monitored, especially following the release of the UN letter, which has sparked debate on human rights issues in Portugal.
