The 81st General Assembly of the United Nations begins this Tuesday in New York, under the theme "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation." This assembly will be the last attended by the current Secretary-General, António Guterres, before he departs at the end of December.

António Guterres will thus complete two consecutive five-year terms at the helm of the UN. During his tenure, Guterres has navigated various global crises and led initiatives related to international peace and security.

This year, the race for the position of Secretary-General is expected to dominate assembly discussions. While Guterres has been a central figure, there is anticipation about who might succeed him as his term comes to an end.

The assembly's agenda includes a series of debates on contemporary challenges, such as digital transformation, climate change, and the management of global humanitarian crises.

The meeting brings together representatives from member countries, providing them the opportunity to discuss and set priorities on international issues. Its aim is to promote cooperation and peace among nations.

Under the slogan "Restoring Trust," the assembly seeks to find ways to strengthen collaboration between states, especially in a constantly changing global context that poses significant challenges to the multilateral system.
