US Energy Secretary Chris Wright arrived in Caracas amid the signing of significant oil deals with Venezuelan authorities. According to reports, agreements worth 'tens of billions of dollars' were reached with US oil companies Chevron and ENI, as well as energy firm GE Vernova.

A US official stated that the deal serves the national interest of the United States. This aligns with the reported goal of gaining control over one-fifth of Venezuela's oil reserves, which officials say could help lower US oil prices and reduce influence from Russia and China in the region.

Wright responded to criticisms that the US was engaging in 'gunpoint diplomacy,' or attempting to take control of Venezuelan oil resources. He asserted that the United States is not looking to commandeer Venezuela's oil, emphasizing that the agreement signifies a transformation of relations between the two nations.

The energy deals under Trump's administration have attracted scrutiny, with some critics claiming that they reflect a heavy-handed approach to foreign policy. Despite this, Wright maintained that the agreements are beneficial for both countries.

As these developments unfold, US officials continue to emphasize the national interest at stake in the partnership with Venezuela, outlining a strategy intended to reshape the energy landscape in the region.
