The US military announced on Saturday that it had struck and destroyed three oil tankers linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This action came after Iranian military forces fired missiles at two US Navy warships in the Gulf region.

According to reports from US Central Command, the aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer successfully avoided what was described as multiple unprovoked attacks by Iranian forces during the incident.

The strikes reportedly targeted the tankers near Kharg Island, a key oil export hub for Iran, and in the Gulf of Oman. One tanker was rendered useless near Kharg Island, another was destroyed near Jask, and the third vessel was obliterated as its crew evacuated, reports indicated.

The US military claimed that these tankers were part of a network that financially supports the IRGC and its proxies. The military emphasized the necessity of their response following the missile attacks on American vessels.

In a statement regarding the incident, US Central Command made it clear that the attacks by the Iranian military would incur a higher economic cost, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Further details about any potential repercussions were not disclosed.

There were no reported injuries among US personnel during these confrontations, maintaining a level of safety for the forces involved. This incident marks a significant escalation in tensions between the US and Iran over military activities in the region.
