Volkswagen has reportedly canceled nearly all collective agreements, according to various sources. This includes the collective framework agreement, which is considered particularly important by IG Metall. The company cites increasing cost pressure as the reason for this step, which has put the industry in a difficult position.

Volkswagen's move is part of extensive cost-cutting measures that have been discussed within the company for months. According to VW’s Human Resources Chief Arne Meiswinkel, the economic environment for the automotive industry has become significantly more challenging, necessitating immediate action.

The company announced this step after a meeting with employee representatives in Hanover. It was emphasized that adjustments to the regulations of the canceled agreements are necessary to address the current challenges.

According to IG Metall, Volkswagen is in a conflict that could lead to industrial action. The union expressed concerns about the impact of the cancellations on the workforce and described the approach as a "grave foul" against the employees.

It remains unclear whether the cancellations will lead to job cuts or changes in wages, working hours, and vacation entitlements. Discussions between company representatives and IG Metall are still ongoing to find possible solutions.

The announcement to cancel the collective agreements has attracted significant public attention. Media coverage also reflects a unified concern regarding the implications of these measures for Volkswagen employees.
