On Tuesday afternoon, a small fire broke out in a technical room of the Poort Van Beveren prison, located in the East Flanders municipality of Beveren. The fire necessitated the temporary evacuation of a wing of the prison.
As a safety measure, several inmates were evacuated to another part of the building. The situation was under control, and no injuries have been reported.
The evacuation was brief. After the fire was extinguished, the wing was reopened for the inmates, according to reports from local news sources.
