WKStA drops proceedings against key witness Schmid

The Public Prosecutor's Office for Economic Affairs and Corruption (WKStA) has dropped the investigation against former Finance Secretary Thomas Schmid. This decision followed an anonymous tip alleging abuse of office. After reviewing the allegations, the authority decided, in consultation with its supervisory bodies, not to initiate any further proceedings.
The decision was made because, according to the WKStA, there is no legal basis for further clarification of the facts. The authority commented on the absence of evidence that could justify the continuation of the investigation.
