Women Often Receive Late Recommendations for HIV Testing
Medical experts report that women are often advised to get an HIV test much later than men, who are tested more quickly.

According to reports from medical experts, women are often only advised to take an HIV test late in the process. This contrasts with the quicker recommendations for homosexual men and drug users, as noted by physician Katharina Grabmeier-Pfistershammer and Andrea Brunner, director of AIDS Hilfe Wien.
The two experts explained that women are frequently offered an HIV test only after they already show signs of illness or if their partner has previously tested positive.

In many cases, most HIV infections in women are not diagnosed until pregnancy, indicating a late detection. In particular, the medical community is less likely to consider a potential HIV infection in women.
Additionally, it has been observed that the average age of those receiving treatment is increasing, complicating the challenges of dealing with HIV across different population groups.
