Xi Jinping begins state visit to the United States
Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the United States for a state visit where he met with Donald Trump; Human Rights Watch expresses concerns about protests.

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the United States on Wednesday night (22) at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington. He was welcomed by U.S. President Donald Trump, marking the first official meeting of this level to take place in the country since 2015.
During the visit, which lasts from Wednesday (23) to Friday (25), Human Rights Watch (HRW) expressed concerns about the safety of protesters intending to demonstrate against the Chinese government during the events.
In the morning, according to reports from state media in Beijing, Xi Jinping argued that China and the United States should be 'partners, not rivals'. This statement was made just hours after his arrival and meeting with Trump.

The visit does not include Xi Jinping's participation in the United Nations General Assembly, taking place in New York. Reports highlight that the focus of discussions between the two countries is expected to be cooperation in various areas.
Additionally, the former leader of the Portuguese Socialist Party, António José Seguro, will meet with the Pope at the Vatican on Thursday, emphasizing ongoing international relations during Jinping's visit.
HRW's concerns reflect a tense environment regarding freedom of expression and the safety of protesters as global leaders gather in Washington.
