YouTube changes rules for counting video views
YouTube will now count video views as soon as playback begins.

YouTube has announced that it will change the method for counting video views. Starting August 24, 2026, the video service will count views immediately upon the start of playback. Previously, a view was only counted after the user had reached a specific time threshold of at least 30 seconds.
The goal of this change is to make metrics more transparent for creators. This adjustment aims to provide clearer and more understandable statistics for content creators, which could potentially have a positive impact on user behavior.
The decision to count views immediately has been reported by various sources and represents a significant adjustment in the practices of the video service. Until now, there has been no official statement from YouTube on how views were precisely counted.
