Ukraine celebrated the 35th anniversary of its independence on August 24 while also commemorating its ongoing conflict with Russia. President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a 20-minute video address declaring a challenge to Russian President Vladimir Putin and emphasized the unwavering resolve of the Ukrainian people to confront aggression. In his message, Zelensky also appealed to the West and China to take a clearer stance.

At the same time, the EU announced on Monday that it has released an additional 6.1 billion euros from a 90-billion-euro loan for Ukraine. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the funds are intended for air defense systems, guided missiles, ammunition, and radar systems. This measure is viewed as part of the EU's support for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.

Von der Leyen further expressed that the financial support on Independence Day signifies a sign of unwavering solidarity. Her announcement came amid discussions between Ukraine and its allies regarding additional military support.

The day's events reflect the ongoing geopolitical tension in the region as Ukraine positions itself in the fight against military threats and works on enhancing its defense capabilities on the international stage.
