19-Year-Old Student Found Dead at Boyfriend's Home in SC
The young woman was found dead in Sangão a week after starting college; police are investigating a potential femicide.
Joviana Evelyn Iankovski, 19, was found dead at her boyfriend José Gustavo Rabelo's home in Sangão, Santa Catarina, on the morning of Monday, October 10. The young woman had started a course in biological sciences at the Universidade do Extremo Sul Catarinense (Unesc) just a week before her death.
The body was located inside a locked room, prompting the Military Police to treat the case as a femicide. The suspect, José Gustavo Rabelo, 21, turned himself in to police after the body was discovered.
Unesc issued a statement expressing condolences for the student's death, extending sympathies to Joviana's family and friends. Additional details about the case have not been released by the police, who are continuing their investigation.
Sangão is located about 170 km from Florianópolis, and the local community is in shock over the incident, raising concerns about women's safety in the region.
