2026 Elections: Free Public Transport in Various Cities on Voting Day
On October 4, voters in various cities will have free public transport to facilitate participation in the 2026 elections.

The first round of the 2026 elections will take place on Sunday, October 4. On this day, several cities across different regions of Brazil have announced they will offer free public transport to voters. This initiative follows the guidelines established by legislation and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). In Sorocaba, São Paulo, all public transport will be entirely free, with special operations as informed by the city's Mobility Secretariat.
In the Campinas region, at least 15 cities will also provide free transport. The free service will be available from 6 AM to 7 PM, covering a period before and after the voting hours, which will be from 8 AM to 5 PM, according to Brasília time. In Presidente Prudente, public transport is already free on Sundays and holidays, but on election day, there will be extra services on existing routes.
Cities in the Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba regions will also implement free public transport to facilitate voters' movement. The service will be available in cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, along with an operational plan for a potential second round, if it occurs.

In Greater São Paulo, local municipalities have prepared special operations, while around 14 cities in the Vale do Paraíba and Bragantina regions confirmed the free service, particularly in São José dos Campos, Taubaté, and Pindamonhangaba. Other cities, such as Atibaia and Bragança Paulista, will follow the same procedure.
In Macapá, public transport will be free throughout the voting day, according to municipal law, ensuring voter mobility to polling places. Buses in the municipal system will be available during the first round of elections.
Finally, in Brasília, the city will also change the operating hours of public transport, offering free service on voting day, although businesses are expected to operate normally, according to information from Fecomércio-DF. Voters should be aware of the changes in schedules and operations on election day.
