Today marks the 80th anniversary of the autonomy of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, an event commemorated in Merano by Italy's leading authorities. The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, emphasized the significance of the treaty signed in 1948 by Alcide De Gasperi and Karl Gruber, which granted a special status to the region, highlighting that this agreement is not simply a compromise but a model of coexistence applicable to other situations in Europe.

He stated that 'one is not a stranger in one's own home,' emphasizing the significance of belonging and identity for the region's inhabitants. The President also mentioned that this agreement continues to serve as a reference in contexts of conflict and difficulties in reconciliation.
