Accident on Fruit Route leaves at least 10 dead and 15 injured
A multiple collision in Santo Domingo involved a bus, a truck, and a car, resulting in injuries, including minors.

A traffic accident on the Fruit Route occurred on Saturday morning in Atalaya, Santo Domingo, leaving at least 10 dead and 15 injured. According to reports, the incident involved a bus carrying families, a dump truck, and a car. Among the injured are two minors, and one of the victims is in critical condition.
The provincial presidential delegate of San Antonio, Soledad Loyola, reported that one of the injured individuals is in a life-threatening condition. In this context, the Public Prosecutor's Office clarified that the driver of the involved vehicle is not in custody and will provide testimony as a witness after being discharged from medical care.
Santo Domingo Mayor Fernando Rodríguez expressed the need to review the conditions of the Fruit Route, indicating that the unfinished improvements in the layout could be contributing to higher speeds and more severe collisions. Rodríguez has requested the Ministry of Public Works and the concessionaires to evaluate new safety measures to prevent future accidents.

Other sources report differing figures regarding the number of fatalities. While La Tercera and other publications mention at least 10 dead, some reports, such as those from El País and Clarín, raise the number to 11 or even 13, reflecting the initial confusion regarding the details of the incident.
The Fruit Route, which connects agricultural areas with the port of San Antonio, has been the scene of other serious accidents in recent weeks, raising concerns about road safety in this area, especially in the stretch where the most recent accident occurred.
Traffic in both directions on the route has been suspended due to the multiple collision. Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the accident and have urged drivers to exercise greater caution on the road.
