Amazon builds a large gas plant in Texas for its data centers

Amazon has confirmed the construction of a gas plant in Texas, designed to power its data centers. This project, referred to as GW Ranch, will include 35 turbines, allowing for a total capacity of 7.65 gigawatts.

According to reports, the plant is intended to supply the necessary energy, especially for operations related to artificial intelligence. The demand for energy is growing with the increase in data centers, raising concerns about the environmental impact of this infrastructure.

The plant could become the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, with an emissions permit of over 30 million tons of gas per year. This figure raises concerns about the sustainability of the project.

Despite this, Amazon has stated that it remains committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The tech giant has pledged to reduce its ecological footprint, even with the expansion of its energy-intensive operations.

Critics also point out that the project could emit nearly 10% of France's annual CO2 emissions, raising questions about the balance between energy needs and environmental responsibility.

The gas plant project will be located near the Mexican border and is developing amidst growing tensions over energy consumption and its climate implications, especially as elections approach in the United States.
