APIG files complaint with the Competition Authority regarding Google’s AI summaries

The Alliance of General Information Press (APIG), representing nearly 300 newspapers in France, has filed a complaint with the Competition Authority. This action aims to ensure compliance with commitments that Google made in 2022 regarding the use of AI-generated summaries.
Media outlets are concerned about the impact of this feature, fearing it may discourage internet users from clicking on their links after receiving answers to their queries, thereby depriving publications of their usual traffic and the resulting advertising revenue.
