A severe flood triggered by an ice and rockslide in the region of Nepal has resulted in at least 19 deaths and nearly 400 people missing. Most of those affected were in the country with the intention of crossing into Tibet to participate in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a pilgrimage of sacred significance to Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains.

So far, 384 people have been reported missing, including 291 tourists from various countries. The impact of the flooding has been devastating, sweeping away villages, markets, and roads, as well as important hydropower infrastructure in the area.

Rescue efforts are being hampered by rough terrain and challenging weather conditions, leading authorities to express difficulties in fully assessing the extent of the damages caused. Despite initial reports, some accounts vary, citing different figures regarding the number of deceased.

Communications and electricity supply have been cut off in the remote Himalayan region, adding further challenges in assisting those affected and accounting for damages. Government institutions are on alert, and joint efforts with international rescue teams are anticipated, given that many of the missing persons are tourists.

Local residents have reported unusually intense weather, and authorities are investigating the specific causes of the slide that led to the sudden flooding. This meteorological phenomenon has caused road closures, further complicating access to areas in need of help.

Details about the victims and the exact magnitude of the tragedy continue to be gathered. News about the situation, still developing, has begun to raise concerns both locally and internationally. Official updates are expected to provide greater clarity regarding the extent of this crisis.
