The catastrophic flooding in Nepal has resulted in over 1,000 deaths and approximately 4,000 people missing, according to the latest reports from local authorities. This disaster, which occurred in the border region between Nepal and China, has been attributed to the collapse of a glacier in the Himalayas, triggering a devastating avalanche that swept through several villages, leaving many trapped in debris and mud.

Since the flood occurred, rescue operations have been underway, utilizing helicopters and emergency teams to locate missing persons. Despite the efforts, many areas remain difficult to access due to damage to infrastructure essential for the rescues.

Authorities have confirmed that some of the missing are foreigners, including at least three Spanish citizens. Search efforts continue with the hope of finding more individuals alive. The situation is critical, as some bodies have been recovered, prompting mass burials due to the high number of casualties.

The impact of the disaster has transcended borders, with reports from the Tibet region, also affected, indicating 16 deaths and 546 people missing. This has led to international coordination for humanitarian aid, with several countries offering assistance and resources for rescue operations.

The Pope has expressed condolences and sent financial aid to Caritas Nepal to meet the urgent needs caused by the tragedy. Additionally, the United States has announced it will send over three million euros in humanitarian assistance, including food and essential supplies for those affected.

Meanwhile, Nepalese authorities have reiterated their need for international support to address the severe consequences and recover those still missing. As searches continue, the number of victims is still rising, reflecting the magnitude of the tragedy in this region of the Himalayas.
