Banco Santander reports record €12.405 billion profit by September
Banco Santander achieves historic profits driven by the sale of its Polish subsidiary and other acquisitions.

Banco Santander has reported a profit of €12.405 billion by September 2023, a 20% increase compared to the previous year. This figure includes capital gains from the sale of its Polish subsidiary, which contributed a total of €1.895 billion to the bank's results.
In addition to the sale in Poland, the bank has also integrated the acquisitions of Webster in the United States and TSB in the United Kingdom, which contributed to the new size of the group. This expansion results in total assets exceeding €2.1 trillion.
The ordinary profit of Banco Santander, excluding the capital gains from the Polish operation, also reached a record level of €11.176 billion, reflecting a 16% year-on-year growth. The improvement in results is attributed to more dynamic commercial activity.

Despite the positive results reported, the market reaction was not favorable. Banco Santander's shares fell by 5.6% on the stock exchange following the publication of the results, indicating dissatisfaction among investors.
Geographically, Spain became the largest contributor to ordinary profits, reaching €3.695 billion, which corresponds to a 14.3% increase. This growth highlights Spain's role in the bank's global performance.
With these results, Banco Santander solidifies its market position and adjusts its growth strategy in light of a changing financial landscape, preparing to face future challenges.
