The BepiColombo space mission has begun its approach to the planet Mercury, according to reports from Deutschlandfunk and SRF. The mission includes a European and a Japanese probe that are jointly en route to their destination. After an eight-year travel time, both probes have now initiated the complex arrival phase.
As reported by heise online, the probes recently successfully performed a critical maneuver to maintain their course toward Mercury. The coming months will be crucial as the technologies and trajectories must be verified to ensure a successful arrival at Mercury.
