Bernie Sanders and 30 US lawmakers urge Trump not to interfere in Brazilian elections
A group of 31 Democratic lawmakers questioned Donald Trump's administration about potential interference in Brazil's elections.

Senator Bernie Sanders and a group of 30 Democratic lawmakers from the United States sent a letter to the Trump administration expressing concerns about possible interference in Brazil's upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for October 4 and 25.
The lawmakers requested that Trump respect Brazil's electoral process and refrain from exerting any influence over the elections. In the letter, they emphasized the importance of recognizing the official results of the ballots, regardless of who wins.
In addition to concerns about interference, the legislators raised questions about actions taken by the Trump Administration that could be seen as diplomatic pressure on Brazil. This situation has generated apprehension among American lawmakers, who sought to clarify the US government's position regarding the Brazilian electoral process.

Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also commented on the situation during a rally in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro. He stated that if Trump attempted to interfere in the elections, he would 'lose' and emphasized that Brazil would not accept interference from other countries in its internal decisions.
The lawmakers conveyed that the relationship between the US and Brazil should be based on respect for the sovereignty of the South American country, especially during a critical electoral period. The letter from the American legislators is part of a response to measures they consider inappropriate by the Trump Administration regarding Brazil.
These actions and statements come amid a climate of political tension, with the presidential elections in Brazil approaching, increasing scrutiny on foreign interventions and external support for candidates.
