Bihar Minister Shrawan Kumar has commented on the recent rise in sugar prices, stating that it will not significantly affect consumers. He attributed this to the increasing number of diabetes cases among the population, suggesting that people are consuming less sugar due to health concerns.

According to reports, the price of sugar in Bihar has risen to over Rs 65 per kilogram, an increase from the previous range of Rs 48 to Rs 50. This surge in prices has raised concerns among consumers, particularly those relying on sugar for daily use.

Kumar's remarks have sparked backlash, especially from the opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which criticized his comments as insensitive toward common people's struggles. The RJD further pointed to central government policies as a contributing factor to the rising sugar prices.

In his statements to the media, Kumar remarked, 'Due to increasing cases of diabetic patients, people are not taking sweets. Everyone is suffering from diabetes. I don’t think the price rise of sugar will make much difference for people,' highlighting his viewpoint on the issue.

The rising prices of staple items, including sugar and onions, have ignited public outcry, but Kumar's claims regarding diabetes and consumption patterns have sparked particularly widespread discussion online.
