Biometrics to be Implemented at Lisbon Airport Starting September 6
The Prime Minister visited Lisbon Airport to assess preparations for the EES system, which will apply biometrics to all passengers.

Starting September 6, Lisbon Airport will be ready to implement a 100% biometric system for passengers. The Prime Minister visited the airport to evaluate the progress of preparations for the full implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES). During the visit, challenges associated with the new technology were discussed, particularly regarding the flow of passenger traffic.
According to the Prime Minister, there has been a positive evolution in the queues since the start of the system's testing phase. However, he acknowledges that the full introduction of biometrics may bring challenges, especially in terms of wait times and queue management at the terminals.

The new EES will capture biometric data from Brazilian citizens and other travelers from outside the European Union, marking an advancement in security and efficiency in the control processes at Portuguese airports. Nonetheless, some travelers have already reported long queues and extended waiting times during the implementation phase.
As the implementation date approaches, authorities highlight the importance of keeping passengers informed about the system and associated procedures. It was emphasized that the initial adaptation to the new system will result in long-term improvements in the travel experience.
