Taxis with fixed prices from Lisbon Airport are now set to begin operating in early November. According to reports, the postponement of the implementation of the system is due to technical issues that require more time to resolve. Taxi drivers have also expressed the intention to include surrounding areas of Lisbon, such as Prior Velho and Sacavém, in the new fare system, which aims to provide passengers with greater predictability in travel costs.

Initially, the implementation of the fixed fare system was scheduled for next Thursday; however, due to complications, the system is only expected to fully operate at the beginning of the following month. The defined prices for the two service zones are 16 euros for zone 1 and 19 euros for zone 2. These fares were established as part of the new regulation aimed at improving the service provided to passengers using taxis from the airport.

The president of the Portuguese Taxi Federation, Carlos Silva, indicated that the lack of control over the access for accredited taxi drivers may affect the effectiveness of the new fare system starting at the airport. Nevertheless, with the new system, users will be able to know in advance the cost of their trips based on the chosen destination zone. Taxis that do not fall under the fixed price system will continue to charge according to the meter, as was customary before.

Reports suggest that the implementation of the fixed fare system is seen as a positive step towards regulating taxi services but is being carried out gradually, starting only with the designated areas. The initiative is fragmented, and discussions are ongoing about the possibility of expanding the system to other areas that could benefit from a fixed fare system, considering passenger convenience.

The new fixed price model for taxis at the airport is part of a broader effort to modernize transportation services and ensure a uniform charging standard. Taxi drivers are working on defining which areas will be integrated into the system, which could make the process more inclusive for passengers traveling to peripheral areas.

With fixed fares, greater transparency is expected for consumers, especially for those arriving at the airport who need taxi services. However, reports about this new system reveal that there are still some challenges to be overcome before it can operate fully.
