The main associations in the taxi sector in Portugal, including the National Association of Light Road Transport (ANTRAL) and the Portuguese Taxi Federation, are contesting the new law that altered the legal framework for transporting services designated as TVDE. These associations claim that the legislation presents several constitutional issues.

The taxi associations assert that the new law creates competitive inequality regarding their services. They point out that the current rules, enacted by the President of the Republic, negatively affect the operation and competitiveness of taxi companies.

In response to the situation, the associations are formally planning to request the evaluation of the law from the Constitutional Court (TC). They argue that it is necessary to analyze the legislation’s compliance with the Portuguese Constitution.

The request for analysis to the TC arises in a context of growing tension between taxi services and electronic platforms. The associations express concerns about how the new legislation may impact the transportation market.

This challenge reflects the associations' desire to have their concerns about competition freedom and the conditions that the new law may create in the passenger transport sector taken into account.

Meanwhile, the debate over the regulations governing transportation services continues to be a topic of public discussion, with various opinions emerging regarding the necessary balance between innovation and the protection of traditional services.
