The counting of votes for five Assembly constituencies and the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat commenced at 8 AM today, according to the Election Commission of India. Spectators can follow live updates on the official ECI results website and various news outlets.

In Tamil Nadu, the Vijay-led party, TVK, has gained a lead in the Dharapuram Assembly seat, surpassing the AIADMK candidate Banumathi by a margin of over 5,400 votes. Additionally, TVK is reported to be leading in Madurantakam, also in Tamil Nadu, reflecting a shift in voter allegiance in the state following recent political changes.

In Assam, the BJP candidate Devashish Sharma is leading the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. The main contenders include Sharma, a former IAS officer, Congress nominee Sibamoni Bora, and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, with the competition remaining tight among them, as reported from the counting centres.

In West Bengal, the BJP is leading in both the Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly seats, securing substantial margins. Reports indicate a significant support base from Muslim voters in these constituencies, contributing to the BJP's success following their previous ousting of the TMC after 15 years in power. This increase in seats for the BJP now totals 209 in the 294-member Legislative Assembly.

The counting procedures are under strict security, with heavy police presence at the counting centres, ensuring the process remains orderly. Live updates are expected throughout the day, with results being announced progressively as counting continues.

The by-elections were prompted by the resignation of the previous MLAs from both Madurantakam and Dharapuram, who joined the ruling TVK from the AIADMK, necessitating these elections to fill the vacated seats. The outcome of these bypolls may illustrate the prevailing political climate in the respective states.
