S. Rajesh Kumar, a Tamil Nadu Minister, has stated that the Congress Party will withdraw from the coalition government if Rahul Gandhi is not accepted as a candidate for Prime Minister. This warning comes amid discussions from some Tamil Nadu Vaaniar Katchi (TVK) Ministers and functionaries who are advocating for Chief Minister Vijay to be considered instead.

Following the recent assembly elections, Congress and TVK formed the ruling government in Tamil Nadu. The relationship between the two parties is now under strain as Congress insists on backing Rahul Gandhi, while some in TVK are openly supporting Vijay's candidacy for Prime Minister.

In a separate development, Congress plans to organize significant protests in response to an FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi by the Haldwani police. This registration occurred shortly after Gandhi held a press conference addressing concerns about a 'purification ritual.'
