The transport company Carris announced on Monday that it plans to launch an international public competition for the reconstruction of the Glória Lift in the first quarter of 2027. The announcement was made by Carris CEO Rui Lopo almost a year after the accident that resulted in the deaths of 16 people.
The new operational system for the lift, which is an important mode of transport in Lisbon, is expected to be operational by 2029. During the project presentation, safety was emphasized as a priority.
This initiative aims not only to restore the Glória Lift but also to improve the safety and efficiency of the system.
