Ceuta: Morocco disperses migrants at the border with tear gas and charges

Moroccan law enforcement has dispersed several hundred migrants near the coastal city of Fnideq, just a few kilometers from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Reports indicate that the intervention occurred after groups of migrants attempted to cross the border irregularly.

Authorities used tear gas, and helicopters were also deployed to intervene during the clashes. No injuries have been reported during the dispersal operation.

News agencies present differing figures on the number of intercepted migrants, with one agency reporting 148 individuals. The situation at the border remains tense, but for now, the new assault on the exclave appears to have been thwarted.

In recent days, Rabat and Madrid had strengthened security measures at the crossing and borders, concerned that the spread of information on social media could lead to a large influx of migrants. Containment operations were carried out with great care to avoid escalation of violence.
