CGTP criticises government crackdown on right to protest
The CGTP accused the government of restricting the right to protest through an unprecedented narrow interpretation of the law, while the PCP condemned police operations in Lisbon and Porto.

The General Confederation of Portuguese Workers denounced government action today, accusing it of adopting a clear policy to limit freedoms, notably the right to protest, through a restrictive interpretation of the law without precedent in the past 50 years.
The general secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party, Paulo Raimundo, condemned police operations that took place overnight in Lisbon and Porto, describing them as acts of violence, arrogance and incompetence. Raimundo made these remarks in Porto.
The communist leader warned the government that it would not succeed in restricting the right to protest, thus responding to accusations raised by the trade union confederation about government policy regarding the right to demonstration.
