Chamber approves bill to regulate miles and convert points into cash

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Thursday (13) a bill aimed at regulating loyalty programs, including the conversion of miles into cash. The proposal was passed in a symbolic vote and will now move to the Senate for analysis, where it also needs to be approved for it to come into effect.

The bill was presented in June and received an urgent request, allowing it to be reviewed directly in the plenary. According to the text, rules will be established to facilitate the commercialization of miles and points accumulated by users in airline loyalty programs.

According to the sponsor of the proposal, Deputy Ricardo Ayres (Republicanos-TO), the regulation is expected to bring more clarity and security to consumers participating in these programs. He emphasized the importance of creating a specific regulatory framework for the sector.

With the approval of the bill, airlines will have a deadline to adapt to the new rules, which will include aspects related to transparency in communication with users about the value and conversion of miles and points.

In addition, the proposal allows for the transfer of miles between accounts, which could facilitate the commercialization and use of points accumulated by consumers. These aspects aim to increase competitiveness in the sector and benefit users.

After the vote in the Chamber, the project is now awaiting consideration by senators, who can propose amendments or approve it as is. There are expectations that it will be evaluated soon, given the urgency already issued.
