Chamber approves suspension of driver's license for abandoning animals on the street

The Chamber of Deputies approved a bill on Wednesday (12) that stipulates a suspension of the National Driver's License (CNH) for one and a half years for drivers who abandon animals on the street. This measure specifically applies to the abandonment of dogs and cats, resulting in an 18-month suspension of the CNH.

In addition to the suspension of the CNH, the bill includes penalties for those who abandon or assist in abandoning animals on boats. The proposal aims to increase accountability for drivers regarding animal abandonment, a significant issue in urban areas.

The proposal was reported by Deputy Fred Co, and will now proceed to the Federal Senate for consideration, where it may be debated and potentially approved or amended.

Reactions to the approval of the bill are yet to emerge, but the measure reflects a growing legislative interest in animal protection issues in Brazil.
